Who is the special girl?…..
Like most people, when hosting a party I find keeping the balance between wanting to be the ’special’ girl and being ‘that person constantly making an annoying play for the limelight’ is a delicate balance! The standard plan to wear the BEST dress in the room, or wear a big badge that declares to the world that it is indeed “MY BIIRRRTTHHHDAYYY!!!!!!” is the standard way forward, but is it really the only way to go?……
Last week I attended a party in which the hostess (and birthday girl) found an interesting way to feature herself as the special someone, in a subtle and stylish way! The special girl sent out her invitation to her party with the explicit dress code “Black and White dress only!”, rather dull you might think for a 16 year olds’ special day… Yet I arrived at the event it was instantly clear who the birthday girl was and who deserved the exclusive attention!! The walls were black and the tables where white, the sea of monochrome attendee’s parted to reveal the only colour at the event as a sensational splash of crimson pink and black!! Now that’s what I call an impression!
I was so impressed by the innovative use of pink as a silent exclamation mark of a special event that I plan to adopt such a strategy for my 30th birthday bash next year! The idea is versatile for all ages and events, and if you think about it the use of white at a wedding, with the unsaid rule that no one but the bride should turn up in white, has been used for many years!
